Genting plans start of Las Vegas Strip construction

Genting plans start of Las Vegas Strip constructionMalaysia-based Genting is expected to be back before the Nevada Gaming Control Board in the next two or three months to discuss specific information about the start of construction later this year on the company’s Las Vegas Strip resort.

The Kuala Lumpur-based company bought 87 acres from Boyd Gaming for $350 million in 2013 to create a Las Vegas version of its Resorts World franchise. The land is on the west side of the Strip north of Spring Mountain.

Genting currently operates a Resorts World casino at New York’s Aqueduct Racetrack. It’s a slots-only operation with about 5,000 games. The company also owns the former Miami Herald building in Miami on which it hopes to eventually build a casino, but the state has not yet passed the necessary legislation.

“I believe we will see a lot of heavy equipment activity on the (Las Vegas) site before the end of the year,” said an unofficial source familiar with the company’s plans.
